This has given the group the support and impetus to continue to bring the matter to the attention of those decision makers and influential bodies who will ultimately decide the fate of the beach.
Members of CarlyonBayWatch have been meeting the Developers representatives regularly since Spring 2003 and will continue to report on progress as the situation unfolds.
CarlyonBayWatch are currently active on 4 main areas;
Pushing for the Public Enquiry:
Whether this happens or not depends upon the decision of John Prescott. We only have until October 15th to influence his decision. See here for details on how you can write in.
Challenging the Ampersand PR
CBW have had considerable success recently in drawing national and local media attention to the real issues surrounding the proposed development.
Arguing for Access : We have:
applied to register part of Carlyon Bay Beach as a Village Green. If this registration is accepted, use of the beach will be guaranteed for the future.
pressed the developer to guarantee access for local people. Following our intervention, we have been told that there will be a permanent right of access to the beach for 364 days per year. This has been negotiated with Restormel Borough Council, but as of 10/10/2003 we have yet to see plans and final wording.
applied for a Public Right of Way. Footpaths and tracks need to be placed on the definitive map. This is a 'belt and braces' approach to guarantee public access in perpetuity.
